Make and Mend Library Project : Make and Mend Kits

A guide to the resources of the SATLE funded Make and Mend Library Project

Crochet Kits

There are fifteen crochet kits available to borrow from the library. The crochet kit consists of:

  • a zipped pouch

  • a 3.5mm crochet hook

  • your choice of 4 colours of yarn.

Mend and Patch Kits

There are twelve mend and patch kits that can be borrowed from the library. Each kit contains:

  • Darning supplies: darning needles, darning yarn. (You can also borrow one of our darning mushrooms to supplement the kit.)
  • Patch supplies: sewing needles and pins, thread, a small selection of patching fabrics (We encourage you to upcycle by making patches out of your own old clothes)
  • Sashiko supplies: sashiko needles, sashiko thread, calico fabric for patching (You can also use one of our sashiko templates and fabric marker if you want to mark out a sashiko stitch pattern)
  • Scissors, pin cushion and pins.

How to borrow a kit

Kits can be borrowed for one month. Contact beth.tyrrell@setu.ie to arrange collection of your kit from the SETU Carlow library helpdesk.  Priority will be given to library patrons who have joined our weekly community of practice, where SETU students and staff can work on their making and mending projects while sharing their skills.

When your borrowing period has ended, please return the kits with all the tools (needles, scissors, crochet hooks etc.) and whatever of the patch material and threads, or crochet yarn is left over. Whatever materials and yarns you have used to make or mend are yours to keep.
