EBSCO Discovery Service: Online Resources: EDS Overview

EBSCO Discovery Services (EDS) is the library’s online search tool. It offers users a simple way of accessing the libraries electronic resources through a single search. It helps you to quickly find resources related to your subject without specifying a particular database(s) to search.

EDS can be easily searched from the library’s homepage. SETU Carlow staff and students must click on the ‘Carlow and Wexford Campus Search Box’ at the start of the search process. Once this search box has been selected, simply type keywords, titles or authors into the search box pictured below and click the search icon (magnifying glass) located to the right of the search text box.

Once you have done this, you will be asked to log in with your SETU Carlow network username and password. This will conduct a quick search of the library’s electronic resources.

Refine your search using filters. There are 2 filters automatically set at the start of every search – Full Text and Available in Library Collection. To change search filters simply click on the All Filters button. From here you can customize the search – refining publication date parameters, content providers and source type. Once all selections have been made, click on the apply button.

A list of search results will generate. To check how you can access a specific resource, click on the ‘Access Options’ button. Learners will be brought directly into the selected work or presented with a link to access the online resource.

SETU Library subscribed online resources will have download / read options clearly displayed.

When searching EDS from on or off campus, after selecting the EDS Online Resources link already shown or before completing a search on the library website home page, you will be directed to a login screen. To login, enter your staff/student email address and password (Email address / Your password).

It is possible to search for publications by title or subject. To access the SETU Publications Finder, click on the e-journals button located under the Carlow and Wexford Campus Search box. This will open the Publications Finder search screen.

A set of options to search for publications will be displayed.

Do more – Enhanced Functionality

Why not create an EBSCOhost account? This will allow you to perform such tasks as setting your user preferences, saving you favorite articles and creating search and journal alerts.

To set up an EBSCOhost account:

1. Go to the federated search box on the library homepage. Ensure that the Carlow/Wexford option is selected.

2. Click on the search magnifying glass icon.

3. Click on the My EBSCO link at the top of the search screen.

4. Select the option Create an account. Fill in the required fields.  Please ensure to create a strong password (a mix of upper, lower case and special characters). Once you have satisfied password requirements, select Create account. 

Take note of the password you created for use in a future session. If you forget your password, you can reset using the Forgot your password? link located by selecting the Sign in to MyEBSCO  button.
