This guide provides researchers at SETU with a comprehensive overview of Open Access (OA) and how it supports greater visibility, accessibility, and impact for your research. Whether you're publishing for the first time or looking to comply with funder mandates, this guide will equip you with the knowledge and tools to navigate the evolving landscape of Open Access.
OA is an international movement to make research freely available to the international research community in order to stimulate further research. Any person who can connect to the internet can access OA material freely. They can also download, print and distribute these articles provided the author of the article is properly acknowledged and cited. The potential readership of OA articles exceeds that of articles where the full-text is restricted to subscribers. OA is made possible by institutional repositories.
For the moment, SETU are operating two separate repositories with a SETU repository coming soon.
The University supports the principles of Open Access (OA) and encourages its researchers to disseminate their research findings as widely as possible.
Open access (OA) refers to unrestricted online access to articles published in scholarly journals, and also increasingly to book chapters or monographs.
SETU encourages all researchers to make their research openly accessible in line with publisher copyright policies and funder requirements. Under the university’s Open Research Policy (2025), authors are expected to deposit suitable versions of their research (e.g. post-print or publisher’s version) in the institutional repository. This ensures greater visibility, compliance, and impact for SETU-affiliated research.
