  • Our library staff across all sites are dedicated to helping you find, use, and manage information for your studies.  

Library Desk (Waterford)

Staff at the library desks can help you with any questions you have as well as issuing and books and taking in returned books.

If you have a more substantial query you can avail of the One to One Library Help service.

One to one library help

Personalized, in-depth library support. Available to all staff and students. In person or online via Zoom, Monday - Friday.

Depending on what your query is the session can:

  • Focus on your specific assignment/research topic when looking at library resources
  • Give you tips on how to best search the database using keywords and phrases
  • Show you database features that make your searches more effective and more efficient
  • Help you get the full-text of the books, ebooks and academic journal articles you need
  • Show you where to find useful library guides on Evaluating Information, Referencing, Literature Reviews & more
  • Address any other library related queries you have

Online Guides (Waterford)

There are a large number of online guides available which you may find useful as a first point of research.

Guides are subject specific such as Nursing, Architecture, Business Management etc or generic and useful to all students such as Harvard Referencing, Evaluating Information, Online tutorials etc.

Group Bookings (Waterford)

SETU Waterford Libraries’ learning support programme is designed to help students at both undergraduate and postgraduate level to become competent library users and to develop independent research skills.

Your lecturer may book your class in for a library tutorial or you can request as a class group to attend the library learning centre for a library tutorial using the contact details below.

Pace Tutorials (Carlow)

The PACE Programme  

SETU Carlow Library and the Teaching and Learning Centre have developed The PACE Programme. A suite of modules to help you Plan, Access, Critique, and Evaluate resources in the library that you can use for your studies and to help you in completing your assignments.

Module 1: Using the library and online library. This module guides you through accessing library resources and using your library account.    

Module 2Your First assignment. This module provides support to get started with your first assignment, including locating journals and using databases. 

Module 3: Citations and referencing. This module looks at how to include citations and manage references according to the SETU Carlow Harvard Referencing system.  

Module 4: Writing a literature review. This module guides you through sourcing, collating and composing your literature review.

The modules are available on Blackboard. This short video gives an introduction.

Support is available through our Faculty Liaison Librarians. If you would like to arrange a library support session from an introduction to the library to how to search for specific information and resources or doing a literature review get in touch with the relevant faculty liaison librarian.

Support for LifeLong Learning Students 

We have a dedicated Lifelong Learning support Librarian, Breda Connell.
